Our Wines

The Howard Vineyard philosophy is to create outstanding wines which are elegant, fruit driven, and reflect the 'terroir' of our two Adelaide Hills vineyards.
Our white wines reflect the distinctive cool climate of the region with full and complex flavours - fruit, zing and zest! Sauvignon Blanc is produced in two contrasting styles, one, under our Cloverleaf label, to enjoy when youthful and the second under our Amos label with oak maturation and a little bottle age. Both can be enjoyed with or without food.
Our Chardonnay is also made in two contrasting styles, the first unoaked, fruity and fresh and the second in a traditional style with barrel fermentation, stirring on lees and subtle wood aging in French oak barrels. The result is a wine presenting clean and pristine flavours, with textures of nut, cream and fine oak whilst retaining the lime and melon flavours of the fruit.
The red varieties are nurtured at low yields to enable a sufficient period for ripening and to obtain both the desired flavour profile and sugar content.
Cabernet Franc is an estate grown specialty, being particularly suited to the site. Our 2005 Cabernet Franc winning the Consumer Judges’ award at the Hyatt / Advertiser 2008 S.A. Wine of the Year. Our 2007 Amos Cabernet Franc was judged a 'standout' wine, achieving a unanimous gold medalworthy score in the Wine Industry Journal July/August 2010.
The Cabernet Sauvignon is made in a more traditional style. An earthy cigar box nose, thorn berry flavour and fine tannins, it is a wine to complement food. A small addition of Cabernet Franc fills the mid palate, adding complexity and tannin structure.
Shiraz is sometimes co-fermented with a dash of the white Viognier to provide an aromatic nose and velvet texture to complement the pepper and spice of cool climate Shiraz.
Our inaugural Rosé was very successful, also a winner of the Consumer Judges’ award at the Hyatt / Advertiser S.A. Wine of the Year - 2007. Our Rosé is now made from our Cabernet Franc grapes using the Saigneé method.
We made our first Sparkling wine in 2008 with some success, and our subsequent 2010 vintage made from Pinot Noir & Chardonnay grown at our Schönthal vineyard have both achieved Silver medals.
