After a lower than expected yield we ended up with 8 tonnes from our Schoenthal (meaning beautiful valley) Vineyard at Lobethal. This estate owned vineyard is at 500m altitude. This Pinot Noir comes from the top of the highest point in the vineyard, where our best fruit is grown. The vines on this hill have to work hard and this struggle is reflected in the lower yields, but also reflected in greater in greater concentration and quality.

We picked a number of clones of Pinot Noir, which were all original plantings in 1998.

Clone 115; aromatic, lifted, pretty and elegant

MV6; bolder and typically more developed fruit flavours

777; tight bunches, flavour intensity and very high quality

D5V12; traditional clone planted in the Adelaide Hills, is the hero clone when grown on the appropriate sites.

All ferments were run hot, some parcels were natural fermented. Ferments were hand plunged twice per day with pump overs, ensuring maximum oxygen for healthy yeast as well as soft pick up of colour and flavour.

Ferments were then bag pressed with 70% of the juice going to new French Oak, 30% going to 2nd and 3rd use French oak. The wines were aged in oak for 9 months before only the best barrels were selected for our Amos range, producing only 2000 bottles.

This year was the pinnacle for our Pinot Noir style definition. This wine is 22 years in the making and we are excited to share it with you.
