2018 Howard Vineyard Cabernet Franc
- Cabernet Franc
- Adelaide Hills
- Bottle size
- 750 mL
This single vineyard, estate grown Cabernet Franc comes from our Howard Vineyard located 420m above sea level at Nairne. Our 20 year old vines yield only 4 tonnes per hectare. This light, early release style is made to be consumed straight away without cellaring.
This wine shows lifted Violets, fresh strawberry and dark cherries, finishing with classic Franc savoury spice. Aged in seasoned French barriques for only 6 months reducing the oak influence with light silky tannins. This wine delivers length and lingers with crisp natural acidity.
Best served with game meat dishes!

To my way of thinking, Cabernet Franc can kind of go two ways. The first is built up a bit with extraction and perhaps some oak, and the second is light, crisp and refreshing, and lovely to drink. This falls very firmly into the latter category. You’d think 2015 was a pretty good vintage for reds in the Hills.
It’s a light wine, but has flavour and energy. Raspberries, a little dusty spice, light grassiness, some floral notes. Crisp and refreshing, soft grainy tannin, juicy acidity, and a pretty decent finish, trailing with that subtle rasp of tannin and herbal aftertaste. It’s almost like a full-bodied rosé, and similarly easy and good to drink. Bang on for our climate too. You can probably guess if you’re going to like this by now. I do. Could even rate it higher.
