2024 Howard Vineyard Gamay

Gamay is a light-bodied red wine similar in taste to Pinot Noir, growers like us in the Adelaide Hills are becoming very excited about the variety. With elevated acidity and little to no tannin structure, the wine is straightforward to drink and exhibits flowery aromas and tart flavors of red fruits like cherry, raspberry, cranberry, and red currant.

Viticulture:  Woodside. Adelaide Hills

Elevation and Aspect, 450-500 AMSL with gentle slopes (5-12%) generally facing the east. Clone BGW19 and 222. These are the clones which we have planted at our vineyard in Charleston.

Winemaking:  Clones are separately hand picked, 10% whole bunch ferments in small 2t batches. Hand plunged twice per day with pump overs, ensuring maximum oxygen for healthy yeast and soft pick up of colour and tannin. Aged in 100% French oak 500L barrels for 6 months.

Enjoy our 2024 Howard Vineyard Gamay with fish, and salty, roast chicken and veggies. Also matches wonderfully with aged cheeses.
